Report links Avalanche star winger to Maple Leafs in shocking blockbuster deal

A recent report from NHL insider Chris Johnston suggests that Colorado Avalanche star forward Martin Necas might be available via trade, meaning the Toronto Maple Leafs should act quickly if he chooses to move on.
Necas has already expressed his displeasure with him brief stint with the Avalanche.

Charlie McAfee from Hockey Patrol writes that with reports swirling that the Maple Leafs are in the market for a top-six forward, a few intriguing options have emerged, players who could not only inject offensive firepower but also help ease the sting of losing Mitch Marner.
Linked to names like Jordan Kyrou and Nazem Kadri, the Leafs are expected to stay busy through the dog days of summer, working to land the ideal piece for new head Craig Berube.
However, a new report from NHL insider Chris Johnston suggests the Maple Leafs might want to turn their attention to the Central Division and explore what it would take to pry Necas from Colorado.
Speaking on the CJ Show podcast, Johnston noted that Necas has surfaced in trade discussions, largely due to his contract situation, and hinted that if the Avalanche are serious about contending, they may be looking to upgrade from him.
"The reason his name is out there to a degree is because he is 1 year away from UFA so you either got to be extending him at some point or maybe trading him if you can upgrade him, I mean a team like Colorado is going to be trying to win next year." -Johnston
Necas, who arrived in Colorado as part of a blockbuster deal involving Mikko Rantanen, made an immediate impact by recording 28 points in 30-regular season games, along with five points in seven playoff appearances.
"Necas, 26, was drafted 12th overall by the Hurricanes in 2017 and has put up 326 points in 441 games (124 goals, 202 assists). Adding a stellar playmaking dynamic to the top line, it might feel as if Marner never left if the team were to acquire Necas; and with only a year away from free agency, Toronto could potentially bring him in as a sort of audition and help him cash in next season." -McAfee
If Necas is indeed available, Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving needs to stay locked in and ready, because this could be the blockbuster opportunity Toronto can't afford to miss.
