NHL writer reveals Jonathan Toews' fate with the Colorado Avalanche

Former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has signalled interest in making an NHL comeback, and he might join a Colorado Avalanche divisional rival.
Toews has been out of action since April 2023 and remains an unsigned free agent.

Toews' absence from the game has been due to a chronic immune response syndrome diagnosis back in 2021, which sidelined him for the entire 2020-21 season.
Jack Sutherland from Yardbarker writes Adam Proteau from The Hockey News recently suggested that joining his hometown Winnipeg Jets, paired with the franchise's high-end-talent, might give Toews his best shot at capturing one more Stanley Cup before hanging up his skates for good.
Here's what Proteau wrote in a recent article...
"Winnipeg's excellent depth also means Toews could come in and serve as the Jets' third-or-fourth-line center, and the ensuing lack of pressure to play big minutes right away and start putting up major points may also be a determinant in his decision on where to resume playing. And the chance to play perhaps one final season with a team that has a solid shot at winning a Stanley Cup for the three-time Cup-winner might be its best selling point for him." -Proteau
The 6-foot-2 center tallied 15 goals and 31 points in 53 games for the Blackhawks during the 2022-23 season while battling the lingering effects of long COVID and chronic immune response syndrome.
In November, Toews shared that he had traveled to India for an Ayurvedic detox treatment known as Panchakarma, and in a December interview with GQ, he confirmed that he was preparing for an NHL comeback.
Selected third overall by the Blackhawks in the 2006 NHL Draft, Toews has registered 372 goals and 883 points across 1,067 career games.
The Winnipeg native represented Canada on the Olympic stage twice, capturing gold medals in both 2010 and 2014 Winter games.
Leading up to free agency, don't be surprised if Toews' name is continuously linked to the Jets throughout the offseason.
