NHL releases major statement concerning Colorado Avalanche defenceman following his shortened season

Erik Johnson's 2024-25 NHL season was one to remember. He reached the significant milestone of 1,000 NHL games and made a return to the city where he spent 13 of his first 15 season.
Johnson hit the 1,000-game mark on November 16 while suiting up for the Philadelphia Flyers.

Johnson has now joined an elite group of just 404 players in NHL history to reach the 1,000-game mark, writes Coby Maeir from NHL.com.
His acheivement was honored two days later during a Flyers home game against no other than the Avalanche.

On March 7, just ahead of the NHL trade deadline, the Avalanche made a move to reacquire Johnson, bringing him back to Colorado.
"In his return to the Avs, he posted two points (1g/1a) in 14 regular-season games while playing 16:36 a game. In the playoffs, he played in two games, averaging 14:49 of time on ice per game. Including his time with the Flyers this season, Johnson played in 36 games and posted five points (2g/3a) while playing 14:35 a game." -Maeir

Heading into the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, Johnson sits just 77 games shy of 1,100, five goals away from 100, 47 assists from 300, and 52 points short of reaching 400 in his NHL career.
