Both Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar were named to the NHL's First All-Star Team for the 2024-25 season, as announced on Thursday.

This marks MacKinnon's second consecutive selection to the NHL's First All-Star Team, following his debut appearance in the 2023-24 season.

Avalanche fans mind blown after latest NHL announcement.

Stefano Rubino from Yahoo Sports writes MacKinnon secured the top spot in center voting with a total of 731 points, earning 85 first-place votes, 101 second-place votes, and three third-place votes. Although his 85 first-place votes were fewer than Edmonton's Leon Draisaitl, who had 102, MacKinnon's 38-vote advantage in second-place selections helped him narrowly edge out Draisaitl, who finished with 713 points.
"This was another season to remember for MacKinnon, even though he didn't finish at the level he did last season, setting new career highs in goals (51), assists (89), and points (140). It was still a remarkable season for 'Nate Dogg'." -Rubino

Over 79 games this season, MacKinnon tallied 32 goals and 84 assists for 116 points, placing second in the NHL in total scoring. He also tied Nikita Kucherov for the league leads in assists. A major milestone came when he recorded his 1,000th career NHL point, further solidifying his place among the Avalanche'a all-time greats.
For Makar, this marks his third career selection to the NHL's First All-Star Team.
"Makar was announced as the Norris Trophy winner after receiving 176 first-place votes out of 191 voters and winning the trophy for the second time in his career. He almost went unanimous as he finished with 186 first-team points and only a single second-place point. He beat his runner-up, Zach Werenski, by over 100 points, as Werenski finished with 838." -Rubino

Makar delivered a standout season, setting career highs with 30 goals and 92 points. His 30-goal mark him just the ninth defenseman in NHL history to reach the milestone in a single season, and the first to do so since Mike Green in 2008-09.
He also established personal bests with 12 power-play goals, two short-handed goals, and 246 shots on goal. Averaging 25:43 of ice time per game, he ranked third among all NHL skaters.
