Marchessault signed with the Predators as a free agent last summer.
Marchessault likely on his way out of Nashville.
Erik Beaston from Bleacher Report writes that after helping the Vegas Golden Knights capture the Stanley Cup in 2023, Marchessault inked a five-year, $27.5 million contract with the Predators ahead of the following season.
However, his production dipped somewhat, and as NHL insider Nick Kypreos reports, if Nashville are looking to shed a pricey, long-term deal, Marchessault is the most likely candidate to be moved.
"If they have a chance to move one of their expensive, long-term contracts...Marchessault would be the most likely." -Kypreos
Despite a slight dip in production, the veteran right-winger still managed to record 56 points, scoring 21 goals and adding 35 assists, while appearing in all but seven games.
"Kypreos noted that Ottawa, Toronto, and Edmonton are all potential suitors, with each looking to add to their top six. Given the Maple Leafs' aforementioned need for offense and willingness to part with defensemen to get it, one has to wonder if Toronto has enough to offer Nashville in a potential trade." -Beaston
Edmonton stands out as the most intriguing potential destination, as adding a player of Marchessault's caliber could instantly elevate the Oilers to favourites to represent the Western Conference in the Stanley Cup Final once again.
Whether Nashville decides to make a move remains uncertain, but the 34-year-old brings championship pedigree and still has plenty to offer to any team looking for proven playoff experience and offensive depth.
