According to a recent report, that the Nashville Predators, division rivals of the Colorado Avalanche, are prepared to move on from star veteran forward Jonathan Marchessault following a disappointing season.

Marchessault signed with the Predators as a free agent last summer.

Predators willing to move on from star player.

Tom Banks from Hockey Unplugged writes that despite bolstering their roster with veteran additions Steven Stamkos, Brady Skjei, and Marchessault in free agency, the Predators were arguably the most disappointing team in the NHL last season.
"Now, a team with a major lack of young talent is locked into these veterans for the foreseeable future, and with Barry Trotz at the helm, there's not much optimism for many Predators fans." -Banks

As the 2025-26 season approaches, speculation is mounting about the future of Nashville's veteran core. According to NHL insider Nick Kypreos, if the Predators decide to make changes, the most probable move would be trading the seasoned veteran.
"If [the Predators] have a chance to move one of their expensive, long-term contracts, Jonathan Marchessault would be the most likely." -Kypreos

Although it was a down year for the former Conn Smythe winner, Marchessault still delivered a decent performance, scoring 21 goals and accumulating 56 points in 78 games. Currently, his trade value is likely at its peak, offering the team a prime opportunity to acquire young assets in exchange for the 34-year-old winger.
"Compared to Skjei and Stamkos, Marchessault's deal will be much easier to move, carrying a salary cap hit of $5.5 million between now and the end of the 2028/29 campaign, so if he's open to a move, it could certainly happen." -Banks

Ultimately, the Predators granted Marchessault a no-trade clause when signing him as a free agent, giving him control over his destination if he is traded.
However, with the team appearing poised for a challenging few years ahead, don't be surprised if a deal is struck before the start of the 2025-26 season.
