Over the next few years the NHL will change forever with the new salary cap, meaning several players are holding out on signing contract extensions to see where the bar is set. One of those players is Colorado Avalanche's superstar forward Martin Necas.
Necas becomes a free agent after this season and is waiting patiently to gauge his options.

That situation has likely impacted impending free agents like Jack Eichel in Vegas, Artemi Panarin in New York, and Sergei Bobrovsky in Florida. This current situation involves Necas as well. If he signs too early before all of these stars, he might miss out on a ton of value.
"Necas is coming off a two-year deal with a $6.5 million AAV. Assuming Kaprizov and McDavid top $16 million, with McDavid potentially hitting the max $19 million allowed under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Necas could lay the wood on the Avs. The Czech forward could easily ask for a contract with a higher AAV than Nathan MacKinnon's." -Quixtan
Necas is entering the most important season of his career. If he produces anywhere near 80 points, the timing alone could earn him a massive payday.
