On paper, the Avalanche have everything they need to win a Cup again, but the game isn't played on a piece of paper.
Nothing short of a Stanley Cup will satisfy the Avalanche next season.
Nestor Quixtan recently reported on the Avalanche's season expectations. The team should expect nothing less than a Stanley Cup with the current roster they have.
"The Colorado Avalanche enter this 2025-26 season with one mission: Return with a Stanley Cup championship. Anything short of that will be seen as missing the mark. The Avs had a bitterly disappointing first-round exit last postseason. That situation leaves little room for shortcomings." -Quixtan
If the top guys all remain healthy and they receive a little more support from the younger reinforcements, they will easily be one of the most dangerous teams in the league. Unfortunately for them, they have quite the competition out west alongside them.
"When looking at the Colorado Avalanche's Western Conference rivals, several teams stand out as the most significant. First, the Edmonton Oilers lead the pack. Any team that has
Connor McDavid and
Leon Draisaitl leading the way will get brownie points for being among the best in the league." -Quixtan
The Edmonton Oilers will enter the upcoming season with a renewed hunger after falling in consecutive Western Conference Finals. Then there are the Dallas Stars, who knocked the Avalanche out last year, and the Winnipeg Jets, last season's Presidents' Trophy winners. On top of that, the Vegas Golden Knights, now bolstered by the addition of Marner, are expected to be serious Stanley Cup contenders as well.
Even with all of these strong Western Conference teams, the Colorado Avalanche remain legitimate Stanley Cup contenders, and could even emerge as favourites if their depth acquisitions perform as expected.
That said, the road to the Finals, let alone lifting the Cup, will be far from easy. Still, fans in the Mile High City should brace for an exciting and potentially very successful season.
