Colorado Avalanche divisional rival Dallas Stars are reportedly close to finalizing a major blockbuster trade with the Calgary Flames involving their franchise star Jason Robertson.

Robertson remains a hot topic in trade discussions as he and the Dallas Stars have yet to agree on a contract extension.

Colton Pankiw from DH Sports writes that 25-year-old has only one year left on his contract, which carries a $7.775 million cap hit. When it expires, he will becomes a restricted free agent and is reportedly seeking a lucrative deal that the Stars appear hesitant to commit to.
"With several other talented youthful forwards including Roope Hintz, Mikko Rantanen, and 22-year-old Wyatt Johnston, the Stars seemingly view Robertson as expendable, and there are plenty of teams who would love to have him." -Pankiw

One potential landing spot is the Flames, who are still in the early stages of retooling and prefer acquiring young, NHL-ready talent over draft picks and prospects. Robertson fits that profile perfectly, making the Flames and Stars potentially better trade partners than many might expect.
"One area the Stars need to improve on is their back end, in particular on the right side. That would make Rasmus Andersson a prime candidate to acquire, and it's hard to imagine why the 28-year-old wouldn't be open to signing an extension with a Stanley Cup contender like the Stars." -Pankiw

Considering Robertson's impressive pace of over a point per game in his 374-game career, the Flames would likely need to offer more than just Andersson in a trade, but acquiring a player of his caliber would certainly be worth the price. Ultimately, it all hinges on the size of the contract Robertson is seeking.
Though it remains speculative rather than confirmed information, even NHL insider Frank Seravalli suggested a possible trade scenario between the Flames and Stars just days ago.
«It's been pretty quiet on the Andersson front. I think everybody's curious what happens with Robertson; will they be able to work out an extension here in short order? And if not, are they making a move? The Flames would love to get their hands on Robertson, I think, in a deal that could involve Rasmus Andersson, which would be such a good fit." -Seravalli
Andersson is currently on a reasonable contract with a $4.55 million average annual value is now seeking a long-term, lucrative extension since becoming eligible to sign one as of July 1. A trade seems inevitable, though whether it's not to the Stars or another team is still uncertain.
