A recent update has delivered a surprising update regarding Colorado Avalanche veteran defenseman Keaton Middleton, leaving fans with more questions than answers.

Middleton was a joyful surprise on the Avalanche roster this past season.

Keaton Middleton rocked with big career update.

Savvy Rafkin from Hockey Mountain High writes that standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 240 pounds, the towering blueliner uses his size to his advantage on the ice. He became a regular presence with the Avalanche after being recalled from Loveland midway through the 2024 season.
Before making the jump to the NHL, he appeared in 17 games with the Colorado Eagles, notching four assists and posting a plus 5 rating.
"Middleton's leadership and physical play were consistent with the Colorado Eagles. His breakout year came during the 2022-2023 season, with three goals and 20 assists. He also wore the «A» as an alternate captain, again proving his tenacity and leadership capabilities." -Rafkin

In his 41 regular-season appearances with the Avalanche, Middleton tallied just two assists. However, his true value lies in his physical presence, he regularly throws big hits and brings an enforcer mentality to the ice.
While typically slotted into the bottom defensive pairings, his imposing size makes him a force in the defensive zone, where his aggression and toughness stand out.
"He tallied 69 hits and blocked 35 shots in the regular season, further proving his willingness to sacrifice his body for the team. Despite limited offensive numbers, his value is largely because of his consistency, physicality, and reliability." -Rafkin

If Middleton continues on his current trajectory, he could secure a full-time role on the Avalanche roster. At just 27 years old, he brings a mix of experience and upside, with ample time left to refine his game.
With steady development, his future in Colorado looks increasingly promising. His recent two-year contract extension ensures he'll remain with the organization through at least the 2026-27 season.
