Team Sweden's GM Josef Boumedienne has identified Colorado Avalanche star forward Gabriel Landeskog as an unexpected but vital component for the team's success at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, emphasizing his importance in their quest for gold.

Landeskog was among the six players named to Sweden's preliminary roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics on June 16.

Gabriel Landeskog remains a key piece for Sweden's success at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

A recent report confirms that according to GM Boumedienne, one Avalanche star could be the deciding factor in Team Sweden's push for victory at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
When asked about what his team still needs, Boumedienne responded, "I'd like to see a little more grit. I'd like to see a heavier game."
He went on to say, "a healthy Gabe Landeskog would have made a difference, I think" for Team Sweden at the 4 Nations Face-Off last February. Boumedienne clearly recognizes the impact Landeksog had with the Avalanche and sees his toughness and leadership as a potential difference-maker for Sweden in 2026.
«He finished the year in Colorado, and hopefully he has a good summer and is able to start off on the right foot in the fall.» -Boumedienne

The grit and physical edge that Landeskog brings to the ice will be crucial to Team Sweden's success 2026. However, his inclusion will ultimately depend on the selection process, a factor that could prove just as important as his style of play.
Boumedienne also noted that Sweden's participation in the 4 Nations Face-Off back in February served as a valuable learning experience for the team, offering insight into what needs to be refined ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
The 2026 Winter Olympics are scheduled to take place from February 6 to the 22nd in Milano Cortina, Italy, marking a highly anticipated return of NHL players to the Olympic stage.
