Former NHL head coach reports that John Tavares may refuse to resign with Maple Leafs to join a true contender

With Mitch Marner's future uncertain with the Toronto Maple Leafs, John Tavares is another star player who potentially decide to test the market when free agency hits on July 1.
If negotiations breakout, former NHL head coach Bruce Boudreau revealed a potential destination for the veteran forward.
Former NHL head coach reveals that John Tavares may consider signing with the Colorado Avalanche this offseason.
Abhishek Dilta from Sportskeeda writes that Boudreau gave his take on TSN's NHL hockey panel saying that
Tavares would be best suited to stay with the Leafs, but if he were to leave, Colorado would be another perfect fit.
"I think the best fit for John Tavares is stay at home and stay with the Leafs. I think he's a perfect fit there... If there was one other place that I would think that he could go that would be a great fit, it would be Colorado behind

Tavares' seven-year. $77 million deal with the Maple Leafs ends after this season.
During the team's locker room clean-out day following their playoff elimination to the Florida Panthers, Tavares opened up about his future in Toronto.
After a conversation with GM Brad Treliving and head coach Craig Berube, Tavares expressed confidence in returning to the roster next season.
"I'm very optimistic that it can work out where I'm back" -Tavares
The last time Tavares entered free agency was when he decided to sign a seven-year contract with the Leads in 2018, after spending nine seasons with the New York Islanders.
The 34-year-old racked up 74 points (38 goals and 36 assists) in 75 regular-season games. In the playoffs, he registered 7 points (5 goals and 2 assists) in 13 games.
