Former Colorado Avalanche forward and breakout star Kiefer Sherwood has made a surprising career decision as he heads into a critical contract year, raising questions about his next move.
Sherwood is entering the final year of his two-year deal, carrying a $1.5 million cap hit, and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
Kiefer Sherwood makes a massive decision ahead of new NHL season.
Scott Maxwell from Canucks Army writes that Sherwood is making a major move ahead of his new contract, with the Vancouver Canucks winger reportedly changing agents, according to Rick Dhaliwal.
"While the specific reason for switching agents hasn't been mentioned, a move like this typically indicates a player felt unsatisfied with contract negotiations. For Sherwood specifically, coming off a career year in the 2024-25 season, he'd want to ensure he cashes in on this season if he signs a contract at this time." -Maxwell
Sherwood is set to be represented by Richard Evans and Judd Moldaver of Wasserman Hockey for the 2025-25 season.
Sherwood is changing agents after working his entire career with Alain Roy at Roy Sports Group Hockey, LLC.
"Sherwood's first season with the Canucks was an excellent one, as he managed to put up career-best numbers with 19 goals and 21 assists for 40 points in 78 games. While some of that was likely a benefit of playing alongside
Elias Pettersson and Jake DeBrusk, he also spent a good portion of his season away from the duo." -Maxwell
Sherwood, an undrafted college free agent in 2018, played three seasons with the Anaheim Ducks, including their 2022 Cup-winning season (though he only appeared in 11 games and isn't on the Cup), two with the Nashville Predators, and signed with the Canucks in 2024.
