With the NHL season fast approaching, Colorado Avalanche superstar Cale Makar finds himself at the center of debate after an analyst dropped a stunning prediction that has raised eyebrows across the hockey world.

The Avalanche are fortunate to have multiple superstars, and one of them could emerge as the NHL's top defenseman in 2025-25.

Stunning prediction on Cale Makar has fans talking.

Tyler Major-Mcnicol from Breakaway On Si writes that Makar wasted no time making an impact, jumping straight into 10 playoff games with the Avalanche in 2018 after a stellar sophomore season at UMass, where he captained the team and tallied 49 points in 41 games.
In those 10 games, Makar recorded one goal and five assists, though the Avalanche's run ended in the second round against the San Jose Sharks.
"Since then, Makar has been the runner-up or winner of the Norris Trophy (twice) each season, with his latest best defenseman honor coming after the 2024-25 season. Makar led all defensemen in goals (30), assists (62) and points with 92.

If there were ever a season that it felt like a lock for an individual award, it would be the upcoming season, and another Norris Trophy for Makar." -Major-Mcnicol
The Avalanche took a patient approach with Makar, agreeing that two full NCAA seasons would give him the time to grow into a dominant collegiate defenseman. The decision paid off, when he finally arrived in Colorado, he looked completely at home.
"Now, with his best statistical season coming last year, it's hard to doubt a guy who seems to be at the top of the sport and continues getting better. Now, in his prime, at 26 years old, Makar is a lock for the Canadian Olympic team for the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games." -Major-Mcnicol

Makar already has a Stanley Cup to his name, but with the Avalanche yet to return to the finals since their 2022 triumph, the Calgary native seems determined to lead them back, potentially pairing that drive with another stellar regular season.
