There's no question that the Colorado Avalanche dropped the bag when they traded away star forward Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes earlier this season.

To add salt to the wound, Dallas Stars' insider Daryl "Razor" Reaugh, the team's long-time broadcaster calls the former Avs superstar "the ultimate game breaker." ahead of Dallas' Game 1 West Final against the Edmonton Oilers.

Former Colorado Avalanche star Mikko Rantanen is considered the ultimate game breaker in the NHL right now.

Rantanen was traded twice throughout this past season; making a quick pitstop in Carolina before being dealt again to the Dallas Stars. It took him some time, but it's safe to say that he's finally found his stride with his new team.
According to the Edmonton Journal, Reaugh goes on to say that despite losing in 6 games to the Oilers last season in Round 3 of the playoffs, the Stars are different this time around and are a significantly deeper team.
«The Stars are six and one at home. Power play is the best one remaining in the playoffs. And then we talked about (top Dallas d-men Miro) Heiskanen and (Thomas) Harley. And I think the entire group back there has played fantastic in the playoffs. So they look thicker, deeper, and in Miro's case, more well rested than they were a year ago." -Reaugh

Oh, and let's not forget about the hottest player in the NHL at the moment...
"And then I guess the biggest thing I'm omitting is, yeah, Mikko Rantinen. They didn't have him last year. They have the ultimate game breaker this year.» -Reaugh

Rantanen leads all players in the postseason with 19 points through 13 games, helping propel the Dallas Stars into a Western Conference Final rematch with the Edmonton Oilers for a second straight postseason.
The Colorado Avalanche may come to regret parting ways with Rantanen, but for the Dallas Stars, the trade has been a clear win. It may easily be their smartest trade in franchise history.
Game 1 is scheduled for Wednesday at American Airlines Center. Puck drop is set for 6:00pm MT.
