Teammates Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar will be competing against each other to take home the Ted Lindsay Award at the NHL Awards this summer.
This year's finalist feature the current Art Ross Trophy winner,
Nikita Kucherov, last season's Ted Lindsay Award recipient, MacKinnon, and the league's highest-scoring defenceman for the 2024-25 season, Makar. This marks the first time since the award was reintroduced as the Ted Lindsay Award in 2010 that two teammates have been named finalists.
Colorado Avalanche stars Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar have both been named finalists for the NHL Ted Lindsay Award.
The three finalists earned the highest number of votes from their fellow players, recognizing their performances during the 2024-25 regular season.
The forward from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia notched his third straight 100-point campaign, finishing second in league scoring with 116 points.
MacKinnon also became just the 12th player in NHL history to post three consecutive 110-point seasons, while leading all centres in scoring this year.
The defenceman from Calrgary, Alberta posted career-best numbers with 30 goals and 92 points, leading all blueliners and finishing ninth overall in league scoring. Makar has also been named a nominee for the James Norris Memorial Trophy as well this season.
Makar could become the first defenceman to win the Ted Lindsay Award since Bobby Orr did so in the 1974-75 season.
As voted on by their fellow players, former recipients Nikita Kucherov and Nathan MacKinnon join first-time finalist Cale Makar as the 2024-25 finalists for the #TedLindsayAward.
It's crazy to think that with these two elite players and the numbers they put up this past season, the Avalanche weren't able to get past the first-round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Ted Lindsay Award stands out as the only NHL honour determined solely by player votes, continuing the legacy that began in 1970-71 with the Lester B. Pearson Award.
Each year, NHLPA members cast their ballots for the player they consider the most outstanding during the regular season.
