Sidney Crosby's long-held dream of suiting up for the Colorado Avalanche has been dealt a major blow, as the latest trade proposal from the Montreal Canadiens.

Crosby's name has been linked to the Avalanche and Montreal Canadiens over the course of the offseason.

Sidney Crosby's dream of joining the Avalanche crushed after latest report.

Justin Lynch from the Sporting News writes that with the Montreal Canadiens preparing for a potential blockbuster move following the Carey Price contract dump, one player they've recently been linked to in none other than Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby.
"Via insider Pierre LeBrun, Montreal is one of 2 teams that have been heavily linked to 87 as speculation persists over his long term future in Pittsburgh. Colorado is the other team LeBrun referenced due to Crosby's ties with Nova Scotia partner Nathan MacKinnon. The ball is in Crosby and his agent Pat Brisson's court in regards to what occurs." -Lynch

Caleb Kerney of Heavy Sports has suggested a mock trade in light of these reports, one that would send Crosby to Montreal in a potential blockbuster move capable of shaking up the entire NHL landscape.
The mock trade would send Sidney Crosby to Montreal in exchange for Patrik Laine, Kirby Dach, Owen Beck, a 2026 first-round pick, and a 2027 second-round pick.
"The Canadiens lack the needed center strength up front to be yet be taken seriously as contenders at this stage of their window. What quicker and better way to solve said problem by going out and landing one of the best hockey players of all time. That would give Montreal a nasty 1-2 center bunch of Crosby and Nick Suzuki in the top 6.

And despite being 39 years old, Sid the Kid is aging like a fine way still producing over 90 points a season. He may still have a long time left in this league, despite his age. The package may be a lot for Montreal to give up, but inserting Crosby in the fold could be the difference between being a playoff hopeful and Stanley Cup contender." -Lynch

For Pittsburgh, it's hard to imagine a better return. Laine, 27, is entering his prime, Dach could become a solid second-line center, and the package includes Beck plus future draft picks. Giving up Crosby would be tough, but the haul is hard to pass up for the Penguins.
"This would be a shocking trade that would blow the minds of hockey enthusiasts across the world. It would be great for the game to watch Crosby end his career trying to win 1 more championship at the historic NHL hotbed of Montreal." -Lynch

Crosby's future in Pittsburgh remains uncertain as the Penguins navigate their rebuild, and only time will tell what lies ahead.
