The San Jose Sharks are building one of the most promising futures in the NHL.
But as the team continues its rebuild, one of their key veterans may be on the move this offseason, with several teams reportedly showing strong interest.
Avalanche eyeing a star defenseman from the Sharks this offseason.
Matt Johnson from Sportsnaut.com writes that according to The Fourth Period, Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro is drawing interest from multiple teams, including the Colorado Avalanche, Tampa Bay Lightning, Winnipeg Jets, and Calgary Flames.
In the 2024-25 season, Ferraro recorded 17 points (12 assists, 5 goals) along with 150 hits, 125 blocked shots, and 37 takeaways across 78 games played.
"Ferraro, who turns 27 in September, does offer some experience to a young Sharks roster and plays a position where they are very thin. However, he's entering the final year of his contract and San Jose might want to move him with a full season left on his deal before he walks in free agency." -Johnson
A change of scenery could benefit Ferraro, who has yet to appear in a postseason game since his NHL debut in 2019. A second-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, Ferraro could fetch the Sharks another valuable asset, either a pick they could package to move up in this year's draft or one that adds to their growth stockpile for the future.
"While Ferraro might not be one of the most in-demand defensemen available this summer, the level of interest in him and the Sharks' ongoing rebuild suggests a deal could happen this offseason. Of his suitors named in NHL rumors, the Flames (7 picks) and Lightning (7 picks) have the most draft capital this year. Colorado has just one pick (fourth) inside the first four rounds, while Winnipeg has two (first and fourth)." -Johnson
