Gabriel Landeskog missed nearly three years with the Colorado Avalanche after suffering a brutal leg injury, and in his first game back with the Avalanche he already made history.

The last game Gabriel Landeskog ended up playing with the Avalanche was when they won the Stanley Cup in 2022, which was 1,032 days ago.
Since Landeskog ended up missing over 1,000 days between appearances, he ended up joining some pretty legendary company. Landeskog became just one of three captains in NHL history to return to the ice after missing over 1,000 days.
The other two captains that ended up doing this are Toronto Maple Leafs legend Syl Apps who did it in 1945, and Detroit Red Wings legend Sid Abel who did it in 1946. Both of these players returned to the NHL after missing 1,000 games because they had to fight in World War II.
Apps was away for 1,009 days and missed games between 1943, and 1945, missing two full seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Apps was 28 when he and multiple other teammates ended up going to war to serve with the Canadian Army.
Originally an Olympic pole vaulter, Apps ended up playing 10 seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and got inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1961.

Abel on the other hand ended up missing 1,045 games from 1943 to 1946, missing almost three whole season with the Red Wings.
Abel missed 1,045 days of NHL action between 1943 and 1946, missing nearly three whole seasons with the Red Wings. Abel left hockey to serve with the Royal Canadian Air Force and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1969.

Landeskog ended up having multiple setbacks during his recovry process, and ultimately had to have a carilage transplant surgery in 2023.
