The competition in the NHL's Central Division continues to heat up for the Colorado Avalanche, as their division rival, the Chicago Blackhawks, sign Frank Nazar to a seven-year contract extension.

The promising prospect signed a deal with an AAV of $6.57 million, and it couldn't be more of a steal for the rebuilding Blackhawks.

Frank Nazar extension puts Avalanche on high alert.

Nestor Quixtan of Mile High Sticking broke the news of the Blackhawks extending Nazar to a multi-year deal.
"The Colorado Avalanche got a salvo from the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday. The Hawks extended budding star Frank Nazar on a seven-year, $46 million deal. At face value, the contract is a win for Blackhawks fans. The deal locks up a rising star for the foreseeable future." -Quixtan

While the Blackhawks aren't near ready to compete with the top teams in the west, this signing poses a threat that they are gearing up for the future.
"The time has come to get the team to the next level. That could happen sooner than expected. If Connor Bedard, Nazar, and other rising stars continue their development, the Avalanche, among other Central Division clubs, could find another competitor nipping at their heels." -Quixtan

While the Avalanche still have much bigger things to worry about, most notably the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars, the Avalanche cannot rest on their laurels. Chicago is a storied franchised with a history of winning and arguably the greatest dynasty in the modern era. They know what it takes to build winning teams and a rise back to the top is imminent.
Colorado needs to make sure they are not only focusing on now but also ten years down the road. They have their superstars in Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar for now, but the next generation is quickly catching up and the Avalanche need to be ready.
