The Colorado Avalanche gave Ray Bourque the opportunity to chase a Stanley Cup when they acquired him from the Boston Bruins in March 2000.

Sixteen months later, he finally hoisted the trophy, the perfect ending to a legendary career.

Avalanche reportedly eyeing Sidney Corsby.

Will Petersen from Denver Sports writes that while the Pittsburgh Penguins legend Sidney Crosby already has three Stanley Cup rings, it's becoming increasingly clear he won't win a fourth if he remains in Pittsburgh.
The Avalanche should take a bold swing and pursue a blockbuster trade for Crosby, giving him a chance to chase another Stanley Cup alongside close friend Nathan MacKinnon in Colorado.
"After Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland dumped Charlie Coyle and Miles Wood to the Columbus Blue Jackets, he's suddenly got some salary cap space to work with. If Colorado included Martin Necas in a trade, the likely asking price and then some, they could easily fit in Crosby's $8.7 million salary the next two seasons. Necas is due $6.5 million this coming year." -Petersen

At 37, Crosby's age is definitely catching up with him. Rumors began circulating over the weekend that he might be on the trade block, but MacKinnon quickly dismissed those reports on Instagram as "fake news."
"He could be Colorado's second-line center, playing with Gabriel Landeskog and Valeri Nichushkin. How much fun would it be to watch those three skate together night after night? And Brock Nelson as a third-line center, after the Avalanche traded Coyle, would be the best in the league. This makes too much sense." -Petersen

Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland isn't shy about making moves, he executed a remarkable nine trades last season. With Charlie Coyle and Miles Wood now gone, he's already back at it again.
Seeing Crosby in an Avalanche jersey would be a dream come true. Now, it's up to the front office to turn that dream into reality and rebuild unstoppable momentum heading into the upcoming season.
