The Toronto Maple Leafs reportedly have serious competition in the race for free agent forward Jack Roslovic, with NHL insider Chris Johnston reporting that the Colorado Avalanche have now entered the mix as a potential landing spot.

The Avalanche have just over $4 million in cap space available to spend.

Avalanche eyeing massive free agent signing.

Charlie McAfee from Hockey Patrol writes that as the frenzy of free agency dies down and the top names find homes, either with new teams or by re-signing, there are still several quality role players left on the market who could make a meaningful impact for any team looking to add depth and experience.
On The Chris Johnston Show podcast, Johnston revealed that the Avalanche are also in the mix for Roslovic, as they aim to strengthen their forward group with additional depth and versatility.
"You know, looking at Puckpedia; Colorado has about $4-million to work with. It leaves them some room to operate. It leaves them some room to go after a player like Jack Roslovic. You know, much like I think the Leafs could be knocking on that door as well, you know other teams are looking for upgrades." -Johnston

While Roslovic might be naturally drawn to the Maple Leafs due to his past connection with Auston Matthews, the Avalanche present an equally compelling option; they already have Jack Drury and Martin Necas on the roster, two of Roslovic's most recent teammate.
"But in Colorado he'll need to contend with Drury, Brock Nelson, Charlie Coyle, Ross Colton, and Nathan MacKinnon. There's a logjam for the Avalanche and unless they are able to ship off Colton; there's no real room for Roslovic. He could slide to the wing, but he's to good in the middle to warrant shifting at the bottom of the lineup." -McFee

In 526 NHL games, Roslovic has tallied 260 points (104 goals, 156 assists), and recently exploded with a 22-goal campaign this past season in Carolina.
Reports seem to be indicating that the Avalanche are not done making moves this offseason. We'll have to wait and see what happens over the course of the summer.
