In a surprising move, Colorado Avalanche divisional rival Chicago Blackhawks, have stunned fans by publicly revealing behind their delay in offering a contract extension to superstar Connor Bedard.

Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson is shedding light on why he isn't rushing to lock in pending UFA forward Connor Bedard, who is now entering the final year of his contract.

Blackhawks reveal why there's no rush on re-signing Connor Bedard.

Jack Sutherland from Hawks Insider writes that the Blackhawks may be facing another challenging season, but it could prove pivotal for both the development and the future of Bedard.
"Bedard, who the Blackhawks took with the 1st overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, is coming into the last year of his 3-year entry-level contract he signed shortly after being taken in the draft." -Sutherland

According to Pro Hockey Rumors, Davidson isn't in any hurry to finalize the deal.
"It's nothing we're actively working on right now but Connor's mentioned it and I'll say it: I have zero concern about where that's headed. He wants to be here for a long time, we want him here for a long time, we're going to make that happen." -Davidson

After a lengthy rebuild, the Blackhawks may finally be in a position to start turning the tide and push back toward postseason contention.
Despite being the undisputed face of the franchise, it doesn't appear that Connor Bedard is rushing to finalize a contract with the Blackhawks.
"I've said a bunch [of times] it hasn't been ruthless or anything. It's just a couple chats. It's all pretty chill. We have a good relationship. It's not something that keeps you up at night or that I really ever think about." -Bedard

Until a new deal is signed, the Blackhawks remain in a holding pattern with Bedard, the No. 1 overall pick from the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
