On Friday, it was revealed that former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has agreed to a deal with the Winnipeg Jets, his hometown team, for the 2025-26 season.

Tristin McKinstry from Clutch Points writes that Chicago was well aware of Toews' impending return to the NHL, and on Friday, the Blackhawks issued a classy message to their former captain, honouring his legacy and wishing him well in his chapter with the Jets.
The entire Blackhawks organization would like to congratulate Jonathan and welcome him back to the NHL,» the team said. «The work he's done over the past two years to make his return is a testament to his resiliency and determination - the same qualities that our fans fell in love with and continue to define him as a player.
According to Sportsnet, the Jets will pay former the former Blackhawks captain a base salary of $2 million. The contract also includes several performance-based incentive bonuses that could raise the total value of $5 million if all are met.

«I'm grateful to be making my return to the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets. It's very special to come home and play in front of my family and friends in Manitoba. The Jets have been on the rise over the last few seasons and I'm eager to join the group and help however I can.» -Toews
Over 15 NHL seasons and 1,067 regular-season games, all with Chicago, Toews tallied 372 goals and 511 assists, earning the nickname 'Captain Serious' for his dependable play and clutch performances at center.
