Avalanche rival willing to deal top defenseman.
Jack Sutherland from House Of Hockey writes that in classic Golden Knights style, Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon made of the biggest splashes of the offseason, landing Marner in a sign-and-trade with
the Toronto Maple Leafs and immediately signing him to an eight-year extension worth $12 million.
Marner's new $12 million AAV marks a $1.9 million increase from the $10.1 million he earned on his previous deal with Toronto, and it sends a clear message, Vegas is fully committed to rejoining to Stanley Cup contender conversation.
With more moved potentially on the horizon, Vegas may be nearing a trade involving a defenseman, a deal that would open up additional cap space.
According to David Pagnotta of Fourth Period, the Golden Knights are actively exploring a trade involving defenseman
Ben Hutton.
"Vegas is trying to find a new home for defenceman
Ben Hutton." -Pagnotta
The Golden Knights still need to make further moves to get under the salary cap, as they currently sit nearly $7 million over the limit, according to PuckPedia.
"Hutton, who was taken 147th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks, has spent the last 4 years with the Golden Knights. He has a year left on his contract with an AAV of $975,000." -Sutherland
He's played in 520 NHL games, recording 124 points, including 24 goals and 100 assists.
