Things go from bad to worse for Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon

It's been a very tough stretch for Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon.
After the Avalanche failed to close out a Game 7 in the first-round where they led 2-0 with a little more than 12 minutes remaining in the game, MacKinnon and Team Canada suffered arguably an even more embarrassing collapse in the IIHF World Championships quarter-finals against Denmark.
In the spam of a month, things went from bad to worse for Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon.
Aarif Deen from Colorado Hockey Now writes that Canada was up 1-0 before Nikolaj Ehlers tied the game with just 2:17 left on the clock. Muck like the Dallas Stars did against the Avalanche, Denmark kept the pressure on and scored the game-winning goal courtesy of Nick Olesen with only 49 seconds remaining in the game.
"It's hard to gauge which loss is more difficult to stomach. But it's safe to say MacKinnon will probably come out swinging next year. He's got quite a bitter taste in his mouth in a year that began with 4 Nations Face-Off gold." -Deen
Add in the trade of his longtime teammate and close friend Mikko Rantanen, and it's likely been one of the most emotionally challenging four-month stretches MacKinnon has faced in quite some time.
"The good news is, MacKinnon made it through the tournament unscathed from a health standpoint. He's got an entire offseason to train and prepare for what I truly believe is the most pivotal 12 months of this era of Avalanche hockey. Most of that pressure will land on MacKinnon and fellow superstar Cale Makar's backs." -Deen
Hopefully, it'll be uphill from here for MacKinnon as he heads into the summer in preparation for next season.
