As the 2025-26 NHL season approaches, EA Sports has once again underscored why the Colorado Avalanche continue to be regarded as one of the league's elite teams, highlighting their depth, talent, and status as perennial contenders.
In addition, EA Sports has started releasing its top player ratings for the upcoming NHL 26 game, and to no surprise, Avalanche's
Cale Makar has earned the distinction of being the
highest-rated right-shot defenseman in the game.
EA Sports proves why the Colorado Avalanche are elite.
On Wednesday, the Avalanche revealed the ratings of all their top players for the upcoming EA Sports NHL 26 game, which is set to release in September.
Nathan MacKinnon earns the highest rating among Avalanche players in the game to his elite speed, scoring ability, and all-around impact on the ice.
MacKinnon ranks as the second-highest center in the game with a 96, just behind Edmonton Oilers'
Connor McDavid, who holds the top spot at 97.
Makar claims the top spot among right-shot defensemen for the fourth consecutive season, a position he has held since NHL 23. His overall rating also remains steady at 95 for the third straight year.
Makar's 95 overall rating also ties him with Vancouver Canucks defenseman
Quinn Hughes for the highest rating among all NHL defensemen.
The New York Rangers'
Adam Fox sits in second among right-shot defenseman with a 90 overall rating, which is five behind Makar and a much larger gap between first and second than NHL 25, which was only 95 to 92.
Since the list only highlights the top 10 players, it's possible that additional defensemen could hold an 88 overall rating.
NHL 26 is set to release on September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
