Restricted free agent Marco Rossi, the Minnesota Wild's franchise centerpiece and key rival of the Colorado Avalanche, has been thrust into the spotlight once again after a major trade update sparked renewed speculation about his future with the team.
Rossi is seeking long-term security with his next deal, but the Wild have been reluctant to commit to a large contract, creating uncertainty around his future.

Matt Levine from Athlon Sports writes that as a result, trade speculation surrounding the center has ramped up, with several teams reportedly expressing interest. Rossi has proven himself as a capable full-time NHL player and could be a valuable asset to any roster.
According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, trade rumours surrounding Marco Rossi have been somewhat unusual. Although there have been reports of the Wild engaging in trade discussions involving the center, Seravalli believes the most likely outcome is that both sides eventually come to terms on a new deal.
"You would think if it was going to materialize it would have already, it seems at this point they've gotta work out a deal to bring him back." -Seravalli
The Wild have been hesitant to offer Rossi a sizable contract, particularly with a major extension for star forward Kirill Kaprizov on the horizon. Reports suggest Minnesota is sticking firmly to its valuation, and up to this point, no agreement has been reached.
"Last season, Rossi posted 24 goals and 36 assists over 82 games for the Wild. In the postseason, he put up two goals and one assist over six games played. The former first-round draft pick seems to be in the future plans of the Wild. But unless one side budges on the asking price, the stalemate may continue deep into the summer." -Levine
For now, it appears both sides are likely to reach a new agreement eventually, but the exact contract details and figures remain uncertain.
