The Colorado Avalanche are reportedly setting their sights on former Stanley Cup Champion and dynamic forward Evgeny Kuznetsov, with a potential blockbuster offseason signing possibly in the works as they look to bolster their roster.
After a strong stint in the KHL, the veteran center is now among the top unsigned free agents.

A recent report from the Times of India writes that with the 2025-26 NHL season on the horizon, the former Washington Capitals star is making headlines once again.
Kuznetsov, 33, spent last season dominating in the KHL with SKA St. Petersburg registering 12 goals and 37 points in 39 games. It's been reported that he's eyeing a return to the NHL, despite a down year in 2023-24 split between the Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes.
Kuznetsov has a proven playoff pedigree with elite playmaking abilities. This makes him one of the more intriguing free agents still available.

The Avalanche are clearly in a win-now mode. With Charlie Coyle being dealt to the Columbus Blue Jackets and Jack Drury unproven as a full-time third-line center, Colorado could benefit from Kuznetsov's offensive upside.
His defensive skills might be a tad concerning, but the Avalanche need some more offensive depth beyond franchise cornerstone Nathan MacKinnon and veteran center Brock Nelson.
Given that he's likely seeking a short-term, low-cost deal, the Avalanche emerge as a top suitor to land the talented Russian center.
