Hockey Canada announced that Dale Hunter will serve as head coach for Canada's team at the 2026 World Junior Hockey Championship, with his brother Mark joining the team's management staff.

This marks the second occasion that the Hunter brothers will be leading Canada's World Junior team.

Avalanche legend receives shocking news.

TSN reports that Dale was head coach and Mark served as general manager when Canada clinched gold at the 2020 tournament in Ostrava, Czechia, rallying behind to beat Russia 4-3 in the final.
The Hunter brothers, together with former NHL enforcer Basil McRae, are owners of the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights.
Expect Hockey Canada to announce Dale Hunter as Head Coach for Canada's World Junior Hockey Championship team. Mark Hunter is also expected to have a role in management.
Dale serves as president and head coach, while Mark is vice-president and general manager of the London Knights. Since taking over in 2000, the Knights have captured three Memorial Cup titles, including a 4-1 victory over the Western League's Medicine Hat Tigers in this year's final, and six OHL championships.
Here's what Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence general manager Alan Millar said in a recent press release...
«Dale's resume speaks for itself: three Memorial Cups, three OHL Coach of the Year awards and two international gold medals. His passion for this program runs deep, and we feel he is the best candidate to lead us to a gold medal in Minnesota." -Millar

Dale Hunter appeared in 1,409 NHL games between 1980 and 1999, playing for the Washington Capitals, Quebec Nordiques, and Colorado Avalanche. He tallied 1,020 points (323 goals, 697 assists) and ranks second all-time in penalty minutes with 3,565. He remains the only player in NHL history to surpass both 1,000 points and 3,000 penalty minutes.
