The Colorado Avalanche were dealt a stunning development as a major career update emerged on top forward prospect Chase Bradley, leaving fans questioning what it means for the team's future.
Bradley was drafted in Round 7 (203rd overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings.
Brennan Vogt from Mile High Hockey writes that Bradley claims the No. 10 spot in this year's Top 25 Under 25 rankings. The Colorado Avalanche brought in the University of Connecticut graduate as a surprising yet intriguing pickup.
Originally drafted in the seventh round by the Red Wings back in 2020, Bradley went unsigned, making his decision to join Colorado at the opening of free agency in July 2024 an unexpected twist for Avalanche fans.
"Bradley stood out right away as he attended Development Camp last summer in Centennial, Colorado. He showed he has great speed and was a standout among all the rookies. What did not show was his grit. Bradley would play 62 games in the regular season for the Colorado Eagles and be consistently on their second and third line scoring 22 points." -Vogt
Bradley's speed made him a constant threat around the net, and when he wasn't scoring, he energized the team with grit and physicality.
Bradley, a St. Louis native, made his NHL debut on November 27 versus the Vegas Golden Knights and also appeared against the Dallas Stars before being sent down to the Colorado Eagles.
Rathe than dwell on the move, he stayed positive, calling it an experience that would stick with him throughout his career.
"Bradley is a player who plays with heart and speed. His wrist shot, using the slot when pressured, could also perform well under pressure. Next season, Bradley will be one of many players competing for open spots on the fourth line on the Avalanche roster." -Vogt
With a full year of pro experience behind him, Bradley will aim to boost his AHL production and earn another deal with the Avalanche.
